I just bought a used 1990's yamaha upright (WX1 model) and it doesn't have a key to lock the piano. However, I need a key so I can lock it from my two toddlers. I search on the internet but can't find any info as to where or how I can get a key to lock my piano. If anyone knows where I can get one, please let me know. I would appreciate any info. thanks!

You can get a key from a Yamaha dealer. However, pianos have been damaged by people trying to open a fallboard that is locked, and the damage is often worse than the damage you are trying to prevent. It is better to teach your children well.

"People trying to open a fallboard" notwithstanding, it is a good idea to keep tiny little people's fingers out of the way of fallboards that can slam down on them. Slam they can and slam they might. If it happens once it is one too many times. It even happened to my boy when he was small. Luckily the music rack stopped the fallboard one inch above its closed position...

Talk to your tuner. Many piano technicians carry spare keys for clients with needs such as yours.

Thanks for the advice, BDB, I'll take that into consideration. However, I do need to keep those tiny little people's fingers out like Supply said. I'll just have to ask around then. Thanks!

If you really want to lock the fallboard shut, there are add-on locks which are much better. They fasten to the bottom of the keybed, and there is a U-shaped piece that goes through it and over the top of the fallboard. Your tuner should be able to install one for you.
