I bought a used piano a week ago, it's hammers look like new, but I checked yesterday and they already have string marks, not too deep, but they are present, is that normal?, I haven't played that much, about an hour a day.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Grooves in a used piano are not at all uncommon. Hammers with grooves 1/16th of an inch or deeper should be reshaped to remove the grooves and voiced to maintain the tonal qualities of the piano. This should not be done by a novice piano tech. Improper reshaping of the hammers will cause loss of tonal quality.

Ron

Yes the only piano hammers without grooves are the ones not played. I love the grooves. $$$ and more voicing practice.
