The Reblitz Tuning/Rebuilding guide says to brighten hammers apply serveral coats of nitrocellulose lacquer NOT acrylic lacquer - thinned with four parts lacquer thinner. My question is this : Is there a brand of Lacquer that is nitrocellulose or store that sells this type of lacquer ??? I've called several paint stores and they have no idea what I'm talking about. Any help would be appreciated !!!!
Thanks,
Walt

Walt, try Ace Hardware or a similar type of store.I have found Nitro at a few of them. You can also try sanding sealer cut with thinner,or water-white not orange shellac flakes cut with denatured alcohol, which also works well.Mohhawk finishing products Amsterdam, N.Y. \:\) state carries Nitro by the gallon and larger quantities.

Baldwin suggests dissolving celluloid keytop material in lacquer thinner. That is pretty much what nitrocellulose lacquer is, celluloid dissolved in acetone.

Is this Waltw from Roxborough??

If so, call me before you proceed, Walt.

If it isn't, you can still call me. Voicing is an aquired skill and it sounds like this is your first shot at it. Since you are in town, we might be able to help.

Hi Rich, yes it is Walt from Roxborough ! I have a few notes on my Baldwin R that just don't ring like the rest so I was going to try alittle Lacquer on one hammer at a time to see if it helps any. Don't worry....wasn't going to do anything drastic !!!
I have to get over your place...its been along time !! Would like to play the 6' 3" Estonia that everyone is raving about.
Regards,
Walt

Get an Empty, clean 2 liter soda bottle, Go toa Beauty supply and 2 quarts of acetone. Dont go to the hardware store the acetone there isn NOT as clean and clear. the acetone you buy at the beauty supply store is really clear and free of other stuff.
get 2 plastic key tops and break them up and put them in the empty soda bettle. put 1& 1/2 quarts of acetone in the bottle. Wait 1 day. shake up ebery 5 or s hours. and you will have a reas supply of really good hammer hardener.
