boy,I'm excited!
I've read last two weeks almost all I had found on steaming.
Today I finally said,what the heck,let's give a try.A bit risky (it was a St&S A,new Renner hammers).
After regular prep (regulating,squaring,aligning,a.s.o.)I laquered just a bit from 9/3 h downwards,I needled (3 nails)from 9 to 10 1/2 and 3 to 1 1 /2 h,6 stiches in the bass,4 in the midle,3 to 2 in the treble,and than I've started steaming.
Really,I could equalize almost as precise as with needling!
I'm very happy with the result:its a round,a bit dark, bell like sound,as I like it (well, hopefully there will be a buyer that likes this kind of sound laugh ).
Maybe of some interest:
the "steaming-engine":It's 5 liters capacity, has a flexible tube about 2 meters long, and at the end is 1/2 inch,so I can adapt those reductions that plombers use, thus giving me different diameters of the steam jet (hope You understand something .... confused )
Well, thank You very much 3hearts for Your previous discussions on the matter.Helped me a lot.And if one of You would be so kind to transmit my thanking to the PTG's too,I'll appreciate

me again:
not only it is quiker, but (that's what I am guessing.....)as You don't needle, leaves You more room for later work (my logic say that is less intrusive ....?)

I've simply laid a clean, wet thick paper shop towel on the hammers, and used my hot hammer iron to make the steam. I wonder if a steamer machine produces a different tone?

in steaming I'm a real beginer.
What I've noticed is that with the hammer iron the tone is a bit brighter in "piano" and steaming reduce a bit the power in "fortissimo".
Once again,beginner!

Have steamed many a bright Asian piano. Works quickly, fairly evenly and appears to last for some years. It does alter shape of hammer because of cupping, and oft results in needing to square hammers again.
It is quick, yields strong results. I probably would not perform this procedure on better quality pianos though...

Manitou,
I had to square again only something as a dozen of hammers. It is true that it was just a "breaze" of steam.

And thank You for the warning (" I probably would not perform this procedure on better quality pianos though..."),I'll keep in mind.
