A friend of mine is dumping his old upright, and said I could take whatever parts I want. Aside from ivories, is there anything else you guys would recommend I take? Appreciate your help.

A piano rebuilder might find in a high-quality old upright lots of very high quality wood for making a variety of parts. A set of maple backposts might be very appealing.

What you find useful in an old piano will reflect what you know about pianos and your woodworking skill level.

I could put those back posts in the Brambach grand I'm going to re-string.....

So you guys wouldn't suggest trying to salvage any action parts? A few backchecks, maybe a flange or two, or a few tuning pins.

P.S.-I do have a woodstove
P.P.S.-I work in a finish woodworking shop (specifically for pipe organs) so the backposts might be of some use.

Tuning pins, why? Once used, you throw them away.
