Would this piano be considered 'mistuned' ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Db0IxUxU2Uc

I heard and played several pianos sounding like this, with a wide resonance. The Romanian 'Doina Reghin', Soviet 'Krasnyy Oktyabr' and 'Tchaikovsky', one Czech 'Petrof' and others...

In my opinion, this sounds nicer than a 'wimpy unison'. And it's a lot more stabler in time. A few cents slide in ONE note in a 'wimpy unison' sounds much worse ;-)

So, is such a tuning officially and deliberately used ? or only for some pianos ? or some music output styles ?
Obviously not suited for a top Steinway ;-)

Wow.
In my opinion, it is a mistake to characterize the piano as having been "tuned" in any way. This is the way a piano sounds when it has not been tuned for a long time, and the musician has become used to how it sounds so does not even notice that the piano needs tuning. The intonation quality of various sustained notes each sounds different to me, so I can't imagine that the effect was achieved deliberately.

But what do I know, I tuned a piano in early October which is going to be used this week for a recording without being retuned. (In this part of the country this year, we turned on our furnaces around the third week in October.) The musician reports this week that "it sounds great"! Excellent tuning? Fantastic stability? Or just a naturally happy musician?

In my opinion, that sound is not pleasant at all.
I'd not use the word resonance, but call that a beating mess.

Of course it can be more stable... If you wash your car today, it can only get dirty. If you haven't washed it in the last 2 years, it's not so easy to make it look "less clean".

Seriously, that piano needs to be tuned.
