Anyone out there know what the sreet address for Story and Clark was when they were located in Chicago about 1910? I'll keep researching it, but if anybody can save me the time, I'd be grateful!.........Sam

Sam... check out this link

there is a history of Story & Clark . According to the last sentence as of 1998-1999 the factory was located at 269 Quaker Dr Seneca PA 16346. Not sure they are still in business there or exactly what the address was in 1905. They may have this info in the Howe Collection at the Univ of Maryland Library.

Excerpted from the Pierce Piano Atlas:

Story & Clark
Quaker Drive
Seneca, PA 16346
(814) 676-6683

Hampton Story began making pianos in 1857 and was joined by Melville
Clark in 1884. The business settled in Grand Haven, Michigan, in 1901,
where it remained until about 1986.
After a number of confusing business transactions, both Story & Clark
and Lowrey Organ Co., ended up belonging to Norlin Industries, a large
manufacturer of diverse products.
In 1984 Norlin sold the organ and electronic keyboard division to two
former piano company executives, who formed a company called Lowrey
Industries. The Story & Clark Piano Co. was sold to the Bergsma
Furniture Co. of Grand Rapids, Michigan, which had all along been making
cabinet parts for Story & Clark.
Pianos controlled by Story & Clark:
Story & Clark, Irvington, Tennyson, Hobart M. Cable, Hampton, Price & Teeple
and Packard.
In 1990, Classic Player Piano Corp. purchased the Story & Clark and
Hobart M. Cable names and designs from the Bergsma Furniture Co.
In 1993, QRS Piano Rolls, Inc. purchased Story & Clark. (Ironically, QRS
was founded in 1901 by Melville Clark of Story & Clark).
QRS, the nation's major source of music rolls for player pianos, has
developed an electronic player piano system called Pianomation that can
be retrofitted into any normal piano.

Thanks, JimBob. It looks like they lifted that info right out of the Pierce Atlas word for word. I hope to find out this info, because I have a 1910 S&C that I am restoring as a surprise for my sisters birthday. This one was made in Chicago in 1910, and my late father was born in Chicago in 1910. I think it would be interesting to see how close his house was to the factory.

Hi Sam, I bought a program to block all of the annoying pop up ads that have been slowing down my use of the internet. You can set it to make sounds when it blocks an ad. Pretty cool and
after I installed it about an hour and 1/2 ago it had blocked 160 + pop up ads. Anyhow- about Story & Clark. I helped a local client buy one from Columbia SC sight unseen. She only had $1000 to spend including trucking. All of the local pianos where JUNK and nothing in that price range. After talking to the seller and finding out who had been taking care of the piano we took a chance. I just tuned it a month ago because she ended the school year as a teacher. The piano is in excellent condition and was made very well. It played well after the tuning and she got a bargain. I worked on another S$C a few months ago that was a real puzzle to take apart. The wood cabinet had screws all over the place and was quite a piece of furniture. Check out the collection at Univ of Md- you may be able to get some of the original ads and manuals. They make copies of stuff for you. I have the name and address of the curator and/or can give you the web address.

Thanks, JimBob, I welcome any info you have. You can post it or e-mail me; my address appears below. This piano is also quite interesting. Quarter sawn oak, beautiful. All new strings, hammers, butts, dampers with flanges, bushings, key tops, etc. Cant wait to see her face when she sees it.
