I left a similar msg on the piano forum too. But it might be appropriate to get thoughts from techs who have worked on these...

I've seen both and they are in great condition exterior looks fantastic (both) hammer wear is minimal, strings are clean (no rust)...

I’m equally interested in opinions on the quality of the pianos. Is the build quality of a 24 year old Kawai GS30 significantly different than that of a 10 year old Yamaha G2?

I have the help of a ptg pt. who hasn't seen either yet (he admits to having a brand biase) (I'll leave it for you to guess).

Kawai = Local Dealer he took it as a trade and is offering 2 year warranty on necessary repairs (parts/labor).

Yamaha = Private Owner

Yamaha is $7k
Kawai is $6k

Normally, when I compare similar models of Kawai to Yamaha, I almost always prefer the Yamaha due to its sound. Yamahas are also sturdier with better tuning stability.

But in this case, the comparison is between a 5'7" Yamaha and a 6'1" Kawai ... not similar.

Side by side, in this case, my preference would probably fall to the Kawai (all other things being equal).
