Wer'e getting a lot of Boston pianos in the UK and I have about 8 including 4 uprights to tune. Personally, I'm not very happy with them and much prefer Yamahas. The pin and plank area seem very 'rubbery' and there seems to be very little feeling of setting the pin properly. This is, of course, leading to unstable tuning which can be embarrassing in certain situations. Anybody out there with similar problems, or am I losing my grip!!

Hi,
I do a lot of work for a piano retailer in Minnesota that sells Bostons. You're not losing your touch, I've noticed the same thing. I've also talked to other piano techs who have attested to it also and have even gone so far as to say that Kawai's are the same way (they manufacture Bostons). I notice it more on Boston uprights than on grands though. I'm with you though on the Yamahas, much easier to work with.

Todd
