Does anybody know of a way to clean piano strings and if it helps the
piano regain some life? I have asked piano tuners but always get vague
answers.

It seems to me that dust and corrosion on a string would not allow the
string to sound the same as a clean new string.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

thanks
Tomer

If you are talking about bass strings my experience is - sometimes.
I have tried the Reblitz technique of removing the string from the hitch and forming a loop and moving it the length of the wire. Add a twist in the direction of winding then replace.
In some cases about 40% of tone came back. In others - nothing. Corrosion eats into the wire and the damage cannot be removed but dirt can to some degree. Take care when attempting to remove dirt from bass strings as sometimes they can be ruined depending on what you do.

Shaaf has a 'block' that will clean the strings with a 'holder' that works for most of the string. I've used it on mine and the shine is restored and the block has the residue on it. Then I wipe the strings with a dry clean cloth. Make sure no oily stuff gets on them.

That might help until you need to totally re-string.

Sorry my English is poor an i don't now some technical words.

To clean strings without removing string from piano I use stell grinding and polishing cushions. But this method clean one side string only.
If you remove a string form piano you can use this to clean all string.
If you have making bass string machine(??) you can use this to clean bass string.

This cushions is good to clean pedals, roles etc. and all metal parts.
