Hi!

I have a truble with my piano.
The G (sol) above the middle C does a whistle with the sound (i mean that i can hear a whilste also when i relieve the key G).

The tuner technicain tried to slove the problem but there is still whistle.
He checked the Stirng, the paralyze of the string, the hammer, and still i have the problem.

please tell me what can cause to the whistle?
how to slove the problem?
i need to know more about the problem if i order a technicain.

Thanks
Tomer.

As mentioned in another post, try moving the piano and see if the sound is still there. Or, call the tech back if he says he fixed it and it isn't, or get another tech.

Trying blocking off the other C's and G's one at a time above and below. Block the notes with fingers against the strings. Also try the e's if that doesnt work. Sounds to me like you have a leaky damper and another string is ringing in the higher partials. Also try blocking one string at a time of the offending note. The damper for that note could be out of position. You will have to take the front board off to do this. It should be simple detective work. Good luck

Is it coming from all three strings? isolate each, play and listen - you could insert a piece of paper folded to create a wedge.

yes it's from all each string of the G.

and i have to say that on G# and F and F# i can also hear a little whilste, but on G is very high.

i don't know if this is important: when i push on some key for a monent - i can hear that the sound is still little continued and not immediate silent.

** my piano is in a normal place in my home.. not a shelter..

thanks..

Please tell us what type of piano this is- veetical or grand. You could be hearing sounds coming from the duplex scale if it is a grand with duplex scaling. Please state what brand and size piano it is or even post a digital picture. The problem could be with dampers, string height, sympathetic vibration, hammer to string contact and a dozen other issues. The fact it is on 2 or 3 successive notes may be a clue . How is hammer letoff ? how is backchecking ?

It sounds to me that you are describing the whistling that comes from the balance rail bushing in the key itself. You say that you can hear it even when you block all three strings. Try pushing the key down slowly without letting the hammer hit the string. If you can hear the noise without making the string sound then the problem is coming from the action and most likely from the balance rail bushings in the keys in that area of the piano. If that's the problem, then your tech can use a couple of drops of Protek on the key and the problem is solved.

Thomson- you may be on to something. I had a
piano a few months ago that high pitched squeaks at the balance rail. Is it possible TOMER6832 is describing a squeak as a whistle ?
Anyhow I tried PROTEk but also did a little easing of the balance pin hole and added some teflon powder. The piano was a Weiler made in Eastern Europe and assembled in the Netherlands. Very similar to Spangler and Sohne. The balance pin hole was not drilled very well and had lots of wood chips and splinters in it..

Boys, unless we know for certain what he means by "whistle" we're fanning the breeze.

" you can hear the noise without making the string sound then the problem is coming from the action"- i tried, not help.

what is balance pin?

you said that the problem can be by bad damper of other strings coze other string rings while the G is in action, but the sustain pedal can cancel all the dampers so why there is no noise in other piano? coze without a dampers on the other strings (link the sustain) could be a noise. so i asking if the dampers really effects the noise?

thanks.
