After all my, too much after the fact, research I think I purchased the wrong baby. Got a K&C model KIG 47 in Jan., 07 manufactured in Indonesia Sept., 2002. It did have a player, that had been removed, has a bass sustain pedal however, it was/is still disconnected (I'm working on that)also, it has a few cosmetic scars which I can live with. Other wise it seems to be Ok. It does seem to have a higher pitch or twinge/reverberation on the middle & higher notes. Bass seems Ok. "The Piano Book" doesn't have any encouraging views. Not to much info in the "Pierce Piano Atlas" either. Wondering if anybody out there in the piano community has any experience or information (good or bad) they could share with me on this particular model? If so would appreciate hearing from you.

Av,
It won't ever be your dream piano, but it could be a decent instrument with some work. I would suspect with a good tuning, possibly some regulation and voicing, you'll notice some fairly big improvements.
I am not familiar with this particular model, but I've seen some K and C uprights that sounded and played pretty well after some good prep.

I have played on and worked on many K&C grands, including the 4'7" models. This is strictly a budget grand with budget performance. Better than most uprights under $7k. Kohler & Campbell are typically older Samick scale designs. As the Samick line evolved the trickel down effect sent these designs down to the K&C models. The early instruments produced in the Indonesian factory shortly after the move from Inchon had consistancy problems. This was rectified fairly quickly. Spend some money with a decent tech and have him make it as good as he can. Play it for a few months and decide to sell and upgrade or keep it and enjoy. One thing to have your tech do is to check the plate bolt torque and tighten if needed (probably will). This can make one of these piano come to life.
