My piano shop is located approx. 200 feet from my home. The business has grown over the last 23 years, and up til now I've not had a problem insuring my home and the shop. I usually have one or two customer pianos as well as a small display area for selling used pianos. My insurance company now tells me that they will drop me if the "business" remains on the same property. Im' in a small rural county, so zoning was never questioned. Anyone else run into anything like this? Steve

I have business insurance in addition to my home insurance. That should be sufficient. Talk to your agent.

Yes, I had two policies as well. The disadvantage of that is two deductables, which I realized when a hail storm punched holes in the siding of both my house and my workshop. But you can't be uninsured, especially if you have other people's property in your workshop.

Had a big meeting with the agent who got on the phone with the underwriter. Looks like things are resolved. Got a different 911 address for my shop. I was under the impression all these years that I had insurance since I was paying... but I never had a claim. The underwriter said that the way it was written was too vague and likely I would not have been covered if everything burned to the ground. Glad I kept my shank bender unplugged. Thanks for your responses. Steve

You need to be covered for liability, especially if clients visit you. It is very important for teachers, too.
