Have you read the book "Grand Obsession" by Perri Knize (aka pique in our forums)? She named her piano "Marlene" and it is about how a musical instrument can turn a person's life upside down. A must reading for all musicians and music lovers! When I get a grand piano one day, I will name it "Athena"...

My girlfriend was over yesterday.

I told her that I decided to name my piano Valentine after Jill Valentine from Resident Evil: The Umbrellas Chronicles which we were playing a few minutes before.

She wasn't happy frown

I named my piano Ella after Ella Fitzgerald one of my favorite vocalists. I also think naming your instrument brings you closer to it but my family thought I was nuts.

I name all my cars and bikes, but did not do it with the piano... frown

Might be a good idea.. smile

I am thinking about "Franzlein" (in honor of Schubert, of course)..... will think about it, thanks for starting the thread.... smile

("schwammerl" would of course do too, but I think someone already thought about it.. wink )

Every computer in my house has a name, but I've come to the sad realization that the instruments (and the car!) don't. I think I need to correct that... will talk it over with the husband. smile

I don't tend to name things, but when I talk to my cat Lisa about the piano, I refer to him as Mr. Piano. He likes to sing her a song written by Mr. Brahms. She sleeps under Mr. Piano at night, but she doesn't understand why he has so many teeth.

My Steinway O's name is Carl, in honor of my beloved teacher who passed away from Hodgkin's disease many years ago.

I didn't have my own French horn frown The first one I used was called Baby, then there was Ellie (for Elephant - creative, no?) and my mellophone was Harris.

My spinet organ is named Cathryne Claryse (I know, I know). My piano doesn't actually have a name yet.

(On the topic of non-instrumental-naming tendencies, my laptop is Jennykins, my car is Ferguson, my iPod is Meredith, and my digital camera is Joe :])

I usually name my instruments after whatever brands they are. Thus, my D. H. Baldwin's full name is Derek Hamilton Baldwin (DH for short), my violin is Karl Friedrich, and my flute is Jeremy. XD.

I haven't named my piano yet, but have had the nagging feeling for some time that I should. I just haven't come up with anything yet. My car is the Crimson Permanent Assurance (Monty Python) and my ipod is Psycho Billy (Johnny Cash "One Piece At A Time")

I'll figure it out eventually.
Until then you may want to keep a safe distance.
