Sax, Metal Vs Synthetic Mouthpieces

I thought the sound of my saxophones were crystal clear until my metal mouthpiece arrived yesterday. It's a Chinese copy of an expensive brand and cost about one tenth of the price, I got it on ebay from a music store.
It is a size 7 Huastar Tenor gold plated.
My God!!! It makes the hard rubber mouthpieces I have sound like toys. The sound is far more powerful and ten times crisper & clearer. It is like the difference between a nylon string guitar and a steel string guitar.
After comparing the differences between metal & synthetic I feel I could use my synthetic mouthpieces like mutes when I want to play quietly so as not to disturb the neighbors. Because the difference in volume between metal & synthetic is quite huge. The synthetic or hard rubber mouthpieces sound soft and meek compared to the metal.
I had read from experts that there is very little difference in sound between metal & synthetic, so I wasn't expecting too much from the metal, but as usual the experts were totally wrong. I'll probably never use my synthetic mouthpieces again except as mutes when I want to play quietly.
Also the metal mouthpieces are much sleeker compared to the huge big bulky synthetic mouthpieces.
So my advice is 'if you're thinking about getting a metal mouthpiece then just do it, because the difference in sound quality is vast. But make sure you get a metal that is hard like brass because if it's an alloy or a softer type metal then you may get the dull sounds of the hard rubber mouthpieces instead.

The shape influences the sound far more than the build material. Experts are right. You, on the other hand... jump to conclusions, wrong ones. Thought I was gonna speak ill of you?
