1. His real first name was Ferenc and he was baptized as Franciscus. ?

2. His father was a successful businessman and paid for Liszt's musical education. ?

3. Liszt shared two links with Beethoven - they had a mutual friend in noted pianist Carl Czerny and both studied composition under Haydn. ?

4. He applied for membership in the Paris Conservatory but was turned down because he was a foreigner. ?

5. In his young adulthood, Liszt was the center of many a scandalous affairs with married women, including Contesse Marie d'Agoult with whom he fathered 3 children - while she was still married to someone else! ?

6. Liszt, as randy as he was, actually had the religious title of Abbe conferred upon him by Pope Pius IX. ?

7. The Czar of Russia (Nicholas I) was so impressed with Liszt's playing in St. Petersburg that he gave him a guest house in the Imperial Palace to use whenever Liszt was there. ?

8. It was Liszt's practice to have two grand pianos on the stage at right angles, so that the keyboards were visible from the right and the left and he could alternate his playing on both. ?

9. One of Liszt's illegitimate daughters, Cosima, would later abandon her own husband to go after another musician: Richard Wagner. ?

Czerny, true; Haydn, false (Although Beethoven did take lessons from Haydn, Liszt never did)

Well, Orlando, I hope you're happy; you've just blown the entire quiz out of the water in one fell swoop. I just hope most of those answers are wrong! ;)jk

In reference to No.4, I think Liszt's teachers were Czerny and Salieri (as opposed to Haydn), is that right?
