I need to transpose music, vocal with piano accompaniant, to a higher key to match my voice range. I've been trying to locate such a service on the Internet but no luck. I've had a friend try Sibelius II and another computer program where the existing music is scanned and the computer transposes to a higher key. It doesn't work, misses notes etc. Does anyone know how to get this done? I have 4 pieces of Broadway songs that need transposing. Send suggestions to darcee@aol.com please. Thank you

I do the simple stuff by hand, but use Finale or Allegro software for large pieces. Sibelius II is a fine program and if it is failing to properly transpose everything, then it's my guess that either the scan is not being fully read or that the set-up may have not been done properly. I would keep trying. There is a tutorial included in Sibelius that should walk you through the steps. It does a nice job with transposing.
Actually, this is a service I offer and if you cannot resolve the problem, you are certainly welcome to contact me through my website and I will get them done for you.

Keyplyr, Thanks for your reply. I'll give Sibelius another try and if it doesn't work I'll contact you for transposing.

Hi Darcee,
Sibelius is a very good program for composition/orchestration. However, it doesn't do well for scanning music and I believe that is because of the 3rd party software involved which is Photoscore.
I bought photoscore for a similar use as what you are trying to do (I orchestrate choral piano parts). However, the entire scanning thing didn't work well at all. I wish I could get my money back.
That is not to say that Sibelius is not good for composition/orchestration. I like it quite a bit.
You have two options with Sibelius (as well as the other music notation software packages) which is to input the music in by hand/keyboard/mouse (not difficult, but tedius and takes time) or input via a keyboard and MIDI. Personally, I input the piece by hand/keyboard and it doesn't take me too much time.
