1. TRUE or FALSE: His father noted Ludwig's early proficiency in music and sought to take the child on touring concerts, a la Leopold Mozart and his son. ? ?

2. What was the name of the first musical work the then 13-year-old Beethoven had published? ?

3. Did Mozart and Beethoven ever meet? ?

4. Who was Beethoven's first patron? ?

5. At age 18, he secured a position in a theatre orchestra in Bonn. What instrument did he play? ?

6. Shortly after moving to Vienna, he took up residence in the palace of Prince and Princess Lichnowsky. This noble couple had been patrons to what two other distinguished Viennese composers? ?

7. For nearly a decade, Beethoven studied song-writing and the musical setting of Italian words with what renowned (in his day, at least) Viennese composer? ?

8. At what age (plus or minus two years) did Beethoven discover he was losing his hearing? ?

9. In 1802, Beethoven wrote a very long autobiographical letter to his brothers, airing all of his grievances, troubles and causes of distress both with his health and his love life. By what name has this document been remembered? ?

10. After his death, a letter addressed to "The Immortal Beloved" was found in his possessions. Who was this woman? ?

1. True. The father even made his son two years younger to make a better impression.

2. Album Leaf?

3. Yes.

4. I think that was the Count Waldstein?

5. Violin?

6. This one I don't know.

7. Salieri?

8. 30?

9. Heiligenstädter Testament

10. If I'm not mistaken, that was Giulietta Guiccardi to whom the Moonlight sonata is dedicated.

3. Did Mozart and Beethoven meet.

CThere is a story, that shortly before Mozart died he met Beethoven for a music lesson and said 'I have nothing to teach this boy' and 'One day he will make a great sound in the world' and such like, but I read that recent speculation believes this to be a fabrication, and in fact that they never did meet.

In the most recent scholarly bio of Beethoven, Lewis Lockford's "The Music and Life of Beethoven (2003), the author states that the famous meeting between B. and Mozart is in any case, not corroborated. He however points that it is possible that the young B. did hear Mozart play while in Vienna in 1787. Years later Carl Czerny noted that while he was a student of Beethoven , B. told him that Mozart "played fine but choppy- no legato."
