Hello,
I am new to this group. I own a Wentworth Upright Player Piano (Boston),
supposedly manufactured before they started cataloging numbers. I have been unable to
find out anything about this piano except the tuner and later the man who refurbished the
entire player mechanism told me it was rare because it was "piston driven".

Does anyone know if this is true, or anything about around what date this piano was
manufactured?

If other pianos are not "piston driven" how do they function?

I originally bought the piano because the player was a wonderful thing to have for our
family and I loved the way it sounded. My grandmother, I never knew, had one and I have
always wanted one in my home.

The piano is about 100 years old and we are the second family to own it. I know nothing of piano manufacture or history, but now that my children are grown I
have the time and desire to try to find out more about this magnificent instrument.

I would appreciate any information about this type of piano or where I could get more
information regarding it. Thanks,

Gypsy

There are many designs that have been used for player systems, and some were more dependable/successful than others, but I admit - this "piston driven" system means nothing to me.

Anyone else?
