Hello all
I have a 1923 Laffargue pianola. It is presently not in working order and has never been restored.

My question is how do i tell wheather the tracking tubes are made of lead or rubber?.They appear hard and break easy but on 2 of the tubes, i have noticed that the tube has been tied into a bow (almost like it was a little too long when 1st installed) and it has confused me as wouldnt it be impossible for a lead tube to be tied that way?.Also if the tracker tubes are rubber ,is been hard but brittle just the normal ageing process of rubber. My main reason for asking is , i want to eventually replace all the tubing but need to know if it is lead so i can take the nessasery precautions to protect myself against the lead.
Also is there a simple or fool proof way to test the tubes to see if they are lead or rubber?

Sorry about the long question as im just a beginner here and im learning something new everyday about these players.
Thanks Daniel \:\)
