dear all,
I would like to learn piano. One "expert" told me that a very affordable digital piano is the new roland F50. He insisted that Roland is the best...can you help me?
I want to have the closest regular piano touch with best sound and midi....that is all
thanks

As far as the best[/b], that is a matter of debate. It's all about personal preference (from feel/touch of the keyboard to sound quality).

If you'd like to add a few details, such as:

do you want something that looks nice (or just something more utility based)

budget?

(sorry, I don't have a lot of time to make a more insightful post. Things to do, people to see, gotta run)

It has to have nice sound, good touch (real piano like) and have a midi to connect stuff...looks are OK but are not the more important (utility based). maybe upgreadable would be nice (se in 1 year will not be old junk..)
budget $1000-1500

thanks!

Sorry for the late reply (I figured someone else would address this issue). You may want to look into a stage piano (if looks really aren't an issue). In your price range I'de suggest a roland FP-5, FP-2, or FP-3; or a Yamaha P90, or P120. You'd have to add some sort of speaker/amplifier system for some of those models. As far as being upgradeable, I don't think your budget would quite allow for that. I'm thinking of something like a rolan RD-700 which is not really upgradable, but is expandable (in the sense that you can add sound "expansion boards"). Once again, sorry for the late reply (I've been avoiding this place, as of late), and short answer.

The bottom line is that you need to try out several models and decid which one best suits your needs.

Sounds pretty upgradable to me! ;\)

Im in the same boat ! I've also been looking at the F-50 and the yamaha models. I used to play lots, but now Im at uni I can't lug my upright about all over the place. The Roland F-50 has a really nice sound quality and the keys feel very much like a 'normal' piano. It looks awful though !
Im also looking at the Yamaha CLP 120, which you can buy for about the same price, although this one is a little bigger space-wise, but also comes with a stool etc.
Like you, what I really want is something that sounds and plays like a piano and not a lot else. There's a lot to chose from though !

Check out the Roland F-100 if you want a better look than the F-50. I have seen it in a very nice black finish. Oh yeah, both pedals are attached to a fixed pedalboard! Its a nice unit.
Good size speaker system. Great action. Definitley worth a look!
