Probably the Carvin. It's a PA system, while the other thing looks like a studio monitor. PA's are designed to get good performance sound, while studio monitors are designed to give you a very flat, transparent sound. The most ubiquitous studio monitors are the Yamaha NS10's precisely because they sound terrible, and the saying goes, "If you can get a mix to sound good on NS10's, it'll sound good on anything."

I like the way you posted smile
I think you should try it... but I assume you don't want this kind of answer if you post here. laugh

I don't know the Carvin company. If it won't blow up in the first week of use (I mean it's reliable), it should sound better: greater low end; but also don't expect great quality and sound clarity - it's cheap.

Not much of a keyboard person, but I have a 50w all-tube guitar amp that I use at home for the guitars...plenty of punch. I'd say a 200w PA would be major overkill for home use. eek

Roland makes some nice sounding keyboard amps that would be far more appropriate IMHO.

The KRK is the best without a doubt. This will give your piano a high quality sound.

The Carvin is a small very basic PA with the objective to give a lot of sound of average quality. Too loud and harsh.

A keyboard amp has, in my opinion, mediocre sound quality compared to the active speakers available today. Not recommended.

Studio Monitors are the way to go! smile

Peace.

I used to own a Carvin 7-string guitar. I still own and use an old Carvin 150W power amp. VERY high quality stuff. They're a great American company that makes great American products. thumb I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them. And since they sell direct, you tend to get more bang for the buck.

There's a big difference between tube power and solid state power. Tubes sound louder than the equivalent solid state wattage because they can be smoothly overdriven. Solid state amps need more wattage to provide enough headroom for a clean sound. So, is 200W overkill? Certainly not for performance. For home use, I'm sure he could get away with 50.

Thanks for all replys.

I had a Carvin DC135 guitar (sold it to buy an acoustic) and still have a Carvin guitar amp.
I agree they put out quality products.

True, about tube amps. But his family and neighbors would have him evicted before he'd have to worry about overdriving with that much power. As you say, 200 watts is way overkill for the home. I'm able to get plenty loud with the Clavinova's dual 40 watt with its built-in speakers, and louder still with an external dual 20 watt and stereo speakers.

The latter has a 10-band EQ which allows me better highs. But I'm stuck with mushy, boomy bass resonance. So I'd like something that sounds better.

I don't need mega power, and I don't need more bass ... I just need cleaner bass. I also need a modest price tag. Any suggestions?

That's also what I'm looking for.
