I'm trying to play back a CD with piano recordings from a friend of mine on my Roland HP2 digital piano. I bought a USB Midi interface cable with one USB plug for my laptop computer and the Midi in and Midi out connectors to go into the digital piano. The Midi cable is a UM-1X / UM-1SX Edirol. I assumed that once I install the driver software on my laptop, I could simply play the CD on my laptop CD ROM drive, turn on the piano, an hear the music through my piano. Not so. Any idea what I'm missing?

Does the CD contain MIDI files or mp3 files or .wav files or whatevernameisusedfor standard CD tracks?

If the tracks are NOT midi files .. and I'm guessing that they aren't .. then you need to use the LINE IN / Line Out jacks on your computer and on your keyboard, to get to the keyboard speakers. The Midi wires won't be supplying any data at all, so they wouldn't be needed.

Hope this helps, it might be wrong, but MIDI tracks are usually stored on DATA CD's, as opposed to SOUND CD's.

Give it a shot. \:\)

Thanks, Bob. I guess it's just a regular CD track since I can play it on a CD player. I'll get an audio cable and see if that'll work. Thanks for your suggestion!
