Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas about this. I'm relocating to another city 800 miles away and would love to bring my piano with me. But it doesn't fit in my car and I can't move it by myself. I was told I could try shipping, but I no longer have the original packing materials. Would I be able to find wrapping materials for such a big item?

Thank you so much!
Jennie

you may sell it to a local buyer and buy a new one once in your new home.

If you go to a packing/shipping place, they can find the packing/shipping materials and make sure it's safely packed for mailing. Might cost a bit though. If they don't have anything for that size, they could recommend where to go.

Hi everyone, thanks for the replies.

dimimousse: While I'd love to have a new piano, this is perhaps not very cost-effective.

theJourney: I'll be driving my car over for the move. Besides, this is the first time I'm doing such a long distance drive by myself...and driving a truck is just too scary for me smile

miaeih: That's a great suggestion. I'll check with the shipping companies.

I'm not sure if you mean it doesn't fit in the car because of other items you're loading, or because of the size of the clavinova. If it's the former, then it looks like you would either need to get a trailer ( something like this Uhaul trailer which attaches to a car ) or have it shipped.

If you think it's that the clavinova doesn't fit in the car, you could try removing the keyboard from the stand, then disassembling the stand. They're flat-packed when initially shipped, so it's possible to break them down - it's just a time consuming pain.

For what shipping companies will charge to package and ship a clavinova ($100 and up), I'd really work on getting it to fit into whatever vehicle you're driving. I'd even go so far as to say that if it's an older model, sell it as dimimousse suggested and put the money towards a new one when you get to your destination.

Good luck!

I bought a floor model clavinova (CLP150) a couple of years ago. The salesman and I disassembled it in the showroom using only a screw driver and (I believe) an adjustable wrench. I brought it home in my wife's SUV with no problem.

When you take off the keyboard (4 screws) and disassemble the stand it really doesn't take up much room. I'd second the suggestion to ship it.

Make sure the keyboard is bubble wrapped and sufficiently protected. The stand I won't worry about to much.
