Well, I tried to be a good junior member, but couldn't bring anything up in "search". So.....

How do you take the unbalanced "line out" from a DP to the sound system mixing board, when needing about 40 feet of cable. I have tried this once with the Roland DP at my church, and ended up with a loud hum in the feed (the board position was set to "line in", not "mic". Thanks in advance for any brief response.

With decent cable, 40 feet should work.

Loud hum might indicate a ground loop (for which cable length won't matter), or possibly a defective cable.

Get a direct box to convert to line signal to XLR balanced. Run a short cable from the DP to the DI box, and then mic cable however long you need.

Something like this DI-box in stereo should do the trick! :-)

After some more experimenting, I'll go with a D.I. box, since the jacks built into the church are all XLR and plugged into the mixer as "mics". The only "line in" is one which a disc player AND tape deck share, and the cabinet makes changing any of the patches "in", clumsy. What compromises--high to low, level and impedence, because of the difficulty of running a simple, unbalanced cable between keyboard and mixer*#*!
