What are the correct dimentions for making my digital piano the same as playing a typical upright or grand? It doesn't have to be exact, but I don't want to form a bad habit because my equipment was placed incorrectly.

I typically practice in my bedroom on a 6x3ft folding table with my piano keyboard sitting in between my computer keyboard and monitor. When I play piano, I move my computer keyboard aside, pull the electronic piano (soon to be Yamaha CP33) towards me and attach the music stand to the back of it. I'm teaching myself with Alfred Basic Adult Piano books. I also brought my organ bench in from the $50 Hammond Aurora in the garage.

I just want to make sure someday soon I can bring some sheet music to an upright and play comfortably and maybe even take a few lessons from a teacher with a grand.

Thanks,

Ray

From the floor to the surface of the white keys on my piano the distance is 28 3/4 inches (730mm).

The standard ht. from the floor to the
top surface of the white keys is 28 to 29
inches. (And the ht. from the floor to the
top surface of a wooden piano bench is
about 18.5 inches.) If you buy a home-style
digital piano with an integral stand, this is
the ht. you'll get. The folding stands
that you use with stage pianos will typically not
be able to adjust to give this standard ht.
This in fact has kept me from buying some
very appealing stage pianos, since as
a classical pianist I'm strict about this
standard ht. However, it probably won't make
too much difference if you play with other
than standard hts.

My table is 28 inches high and keys are 4" higher at 32". Hopefully the CP33 I'm getting next week will have keys an inch lower, but it looks like I may want to trim my table legs 2-3 inches. Thanks for the replies.

My organ bench that I sit on is 21 1/4 inches high.

The very popular (I have one) WS-550 stand is 29" to the top of the white keys on it's lowest setting with the tallest of DPs - the Yamaha P250/CP300. It's adjustable in roughly 1" increments up from that. It folds down into a T shape.
