I'm a novice pianoplayer and I'm considering buying a Yamaha clp 115. After reading several posts on this board, I started hesitating. Is a clp 120 a better choice? Any thoughts?

always go for the higher number model in CLP 1** series. the highter the number is, the better the piano sounds and the more features it has. you may check their specs at Yamaha home site to compare their difference.

btw, if i were you, i'd even buy CLP130 which is even better than CLP120.

I have to second the vote of the CLP-130 as the minimum version to consider. I believe that this is the lowest model to include samples at more than one velocity level (more natural sound) including sustain and key-off samples.

BTW:

CLP-115 = 32 Note Poly
CLP-120 = 64 Note Poly (Less note stealing while playing sustained fast passages)

In comparison to similarly price digital pianos, I think the Clp115 and the CLP120 are both good instruments. As mentioned here though, the higher the number, the better the instrument.

If you have the money to work with, look at the clp150. It is a bit expensive in regards to the clp115, but well worth the additional money.

I would suggest trying the CLP115 and CLP120 side by side and making the decision based on sounds and feels the best to you.

If you don't mind the look, you may want to check out the P series as well. The Yamaha P-120 and P-90 are technically very similar to the CLP-130 with the triple layer piano samples( very noticable difference with lower models). Though the P-120 has rather weak, but not terrible, internal speakers and the P-90 has no internal speakers. However, the price is great.

I agree with Rodney though, if you're looking at a CLP, its in your best interest to start at the 130. You'll forget about the extra few hundred bucks when you play it.

The CLP130 is the one to go for if you want longevity. Anything lower than that for me, and I'd get fed up with the sound after a while.
