Hello
Im currently thinking about buying a digital piano/synth. Scince i'm totally new in this field, i'd appreciate any help i could get! My current budget would be around $500 and defenitly not more than $600.
Im not sure if I should buy a digital piano or a synth. Right now the main reason for buying one is just for my own good sake, and it's mainly the piano sound I'm intrested in, but this might change in the future (not very possible though). Is there a great difference in sound quality between a digital piano and a synth (both in the same price class)?
If you mention any technical details, i'd appreciate if you would explain them just a little bit, thanks!

what types of music are you intend to play, classical, pop, new age, jazz or anything else?

if classical music is your interest, then get a digital piano; if not, buy a synth so that you could mix up all kinds of sound and have some fun.

At the moment, all of the above and everything else \:\) Right now, I just want to learn how to handle the thing, so I don't really know in what direction I might go in the future. It probably sounds as I should get myself a synth right away so I keep all doors open. But I don't want to buy a synth today, and discover later on (when my I'm getting better at it) that the sound quality is crap on a synth compared to a digital piano in the same price range. The listening experience is more important than the experimental part.

my suggestion is that just go to some music store and try out the digital pianos or keyboards they have there and see what you like.

Yeah, I will visit a music store next week. In the mean time I wanted to get some tips and ideas from the pro's so I know what to look for \:\) The people working in the music store will probably know a lot too, but I want to hear more opinions than theirs before actually buying something.
