I've never owned a piano and am thinking of buying the PX100. I know it's probably not of the same quality as the more expensive Yamaha or Korg digital painos, but buying one of those would be like learning to drive in a Porsche I think, in the sense that I don't really require all that much. Also, I'm on a limited budget, and the PX100 is around 1000USD here in Sweden, with other brands like Yamaha even more expensive.

Now, I've tried finding some information about what can be done by connecting the piano to my computer. I haven't been able to find any conclusive answers. Is it possible to buy/download samples of the Internet and use those and my computer for generating the sound instead of the piano? If so, what software would I need?

it sounds double priced in Sweden for a Casio PX100. there were some discussions on this particular model in the past. you can just do a search (click 'search' on the top of this page and type 'casio px100') to get the previous threads for it. good luck!

I can't attest to the PX100's midi capabilities or to what kind of car you like to drive wink , but I do think you can do better than $1000USD.

Check out the PX100 at synthplanet.com

~430€ + 65€ shipping... though you could prolly save yourself ~600 Kronas by paying in dollars =)

They're in Belgium, I think. Anyway, $1000USD is a big rip-off, regardless of exchange rates.

Assuming the PX100 has full midi capability (and it appears to) you could connect it to a computer running "soft sampler" software. However, it takes a powerful computer, lots of disk space, specialized software (GigaStudio is one example) and sample libraries. By the time you put all of this together it would be far more than $1,000 U.S. I agree with the other comments here that $1,000 U.S. is far too much to pay for the PX100 - that's what I paid for my mother's new PX400, which is a much better digital.

Thanks for the replies smile

That is a really good price, and I checked out some other models on that site and they were equally cheap compared to here in Sweden. I'm a bit worried about warranties and such, if something brakes I guess I'll have to ship it all the way back to Belgium to get it fixed. How would you say digital pianos are when it comes to reliability when compared to other electronic equipment? More or less likely to stop working 6 months after the purchase?

JimM: I've looked around some for the PX400, haven't been able to find it though. I have found PX300 and PX500L, are they similar at all to the PX400? And what diffrenciates them from the PX100?

a digital piano like all other electronics could last long time (even until they are outdated if you are lucky), unless there are some factory defects to begin with.

Hi khoma

I've owned a PX100 which has been used as a second practise piano for over a year now.

I play it at work (as I own my own business and can if I want ...so I do!)...I play it almost every day and it hasn't skipped a beat although notes will drop out if you play 2 voices at once and play say a big run...but in one voice (ie lets say "Grand Piano") it never drops any notes.

I bought it before my Yammie CLP170 and up until that moment I loved it...however, after buying the yammie it has never seemed quite as good but, its still okay as a practise piano.

But, I have wished i'd bought the Yamaha p90 or p120 ever since the day I bought the CLP 170

regards

I am a spanish beginner an i recently bought my PX100 here
The delivery tax for the Keyboard and the stand was only 24€ (14€ if you pay with Credit Card) (1 eur =+ or - 1 Dollar), and i had them at home in just one week. I,m sure they will send items to Sweden, too.

Check it out an compare.
