I have an 11 year old Kurzweil Mk 10 Ensemble Grand. It has excellent sampled sounds, great arrangements and rythms but ---

the keys are getting VERY noisy, I mean mechanical noise. They squeak when pressed down but the worst is when they are realeased. The make a really loud clunk to the point where it's almost unplayable. It seems like the sharps are louder than the white keys but they are all really bad.

Anyone seen this? Any advice? I really like the keyboard even though the touch is not as good as new ones but it is really no fun to play anymore because of the keys.

I have a K2600X that is pretty noisy when the keys are released too, but I think it's just normal for mine. The cause is the hammers falling back to the "at rest" position. They should be landing on some soft felt but that has probably compressed over time creating a hard surface. Call Kurzweil or your local Authorized service center as it should be an easy fix. The action is made by Fatar, I believe.

Yes Kurzweil action is done by Fatar.
I am loyal to Fatar action, although the old TP10/MD keybeds were notorious for being noisy, squeaky and for breaking. I have a couple in my basement for parts (especially replacing hammers)

You can service the keybed yourself. I use vaseline (petroleum jelly) on the hammer felt to get rid of squeaking.

Also, the Kurzweil parts department sells newer keybeds like TP30 etc...which don't break. They feel a little different though. These keybeds are interchangeable with the older ones. The only thing is that the screws underneath aren't in the same place ;\)
