By this question I suspect you don't have any experience installing cards in computers.
All computer cards are static sensitive and damage can be done to a card that may not show up as a problem for some time.
The card will come in an anti static bag. Do not remove it from the bag until you are ready to install it.
1/ If you can, have the computer plugged into a power outlet but with

the switch on the outlet turned off[/b].
2/ Try to keep part of your body in contact with the case of the computer as much as possible while fitting the card.
3/ Identiy a spare PCI slot (usually white) where you want to install the card. and remove the blank panel. For the 2496, any PCI slot sould be fine.
4/ Remove the card from the bag by grabbing the metal bracket only. and touch the metal bracket to the case of the computer for a couple of seconds.
5/ Insert the card in the slot and make sure it is firmly seated.

Do not[/b] touch the gold connectors along the edge of the card.
6/ Screw the bracket down.
7/ Put the cover back on the computer and turn it on.
Most driver installatons are fairly simple nowdays. Just insert the CD when the computer is running and it should auto run.
When the computer first boots after you have fitted the card it should detect the card and ask you for a driver. This is an area that varies from card to card. In some cases you can insert the CD at this point and the driver will be installed. In other cases you need to cancel the auto installation and run the CD afterwards. The instructions that came with the card will tell you what to do here.
