I got a "mushy" key on my 2 year old Yamaha Clavinova. Sound is fine but the action is sluggish. Any tips on how to free this up? Lubrication, a call to a tech or ? Thanks from a newbie.

You may require a new keybed, call Yamaha tech support or your local dealer.

Rad, I had this happen to my YDP 121. Basically the keys are plastic, and where the action meets the contact strip there is a connection point.. even a hairline crack in the key at that point will cause the action to fail on that key.

I had it fixed once.. it was $15 a key, plus labor. Second time they started going I called Yamaha, and even though my piano was out of warrenty, they sent out a whole new keyboard assembly.

If it is only one key, its probably one that gets quite a beating... all mine were mid register, and i practice about 2 hours a day. My piano is about 2 years old too, my tech said they had a bad batch of keys that went out in the time frame that my piano was made, but my serial number was not in that lot. But like I said... yamaha did a one time only swap out for me. Make sure you call a tech who is familiar with digs. Mine does both accoustical and digital, he is wonderful. Anyway... I am 100% certain that you have that problem, and there is no way to free it up other than replacing the key... it will only get to the point where the key will not spring back up.

My CLP-910 has developed this problem also...on the B and D natural around middle C. However it looks like the keys are being pushed to the left, they are very sluggish and annoying, and I am starting to get agitated (as I cant get it fixed for a month of so more, I can't afford it)! Is there any chance that it isn't a problem that needs keys being replaced?

PROBABLY needs new keys... when the tech fixes it watch him, that way when it happens again, if you are mechanically inclined.. you can swap out keys easily. Are you still under warrenty? Even if you are just out of warrenty... I suggest you call yamaha....

I tried fiddling with mine... manipulating them etc... and it only made the crack (you cant see it) worse, and the keys would eventually FALL and stay fallen ... no action bounce up.

It cost me 45 to have the tech come to the house, plus 15 a key, and 45 an hour labor... it took him about 20 minutes so he only charged 22.50 for labor. Initially i had several keys replaced... the second time around, Yamaha provided they new key assembly and the labor.

GOOD LUCK, I understand the aggitation :-/ trust me
