G.C. had two P-140 floor models out, for some reason, but only on one of them was only one D# sound sick. How is that possible? Headphones or on-board speakers. Something was definitely messed up though, what could I have been hearing?

It could be a bad key contact or a software glitch. Be glad that particular unit is on the floor and not in a box waiting for you to take it home!

No kidding. Now I'm worried about ordering one sight-unseen new, much less off ebay or something. Thanks for the possible explanation, bad contact makes sense in remembering what it sounded like.

Well the one I ended up getting had no such problems per se, though G4 in piano 1 does have an odd after effect ringing through both headphones and on-board speakers, that does not occur with any other note, or even that same note in piano 2 or 3, or any other voices. So that alone is not a dealbreaker.

B.T.W. just wanted to update this topic with a user's question I found on yamaha-keyboard-guide.com. COincidentally sounded like my experience with that one floor model:

 Quote:
I have a Yamaha p140, and several of the notes have gone out of tune! Aflat and e-flat are now out by nearly a quarter pitch. I didn't think this was possible.

We do have a child who like to push buttons on the keyboard; is it possible he managed to "de-tune" the intervals some how? Is it possible to re-set the tuning
They suggested he turn it off and back on again while holding down c7 to reset.
