The RRP for the 380 in Australia is 7800 AUD. Far too expensive IMHO especially when you can get a Roland HP207 for 3000 AUD less!
Despite being a Yamaha fan, I bought the Roland 207 and cannot see what the CLP-380 has to offer that justifies its price tag.
Being a dealer, owner, manufacturer or whatever should not have any bearing as to whether a contribution is welcome or not.
I can read the general perception people have about the 380 and its price tag, as well as the idea of supporting the Kawais and Rolands.

Or, in USD: $5028 for the CLP380 and $3094 for the HP207. Wait ... are we comparing apples and oranges? The $3094 price sound like an actual selling price for the HP207. (The price paid thread shows people paying something close to that price.) But you're saying that the CLP-380's price $5028 is the "RRP". What is "RRP"? Is that what we in America call "MSRP", manufacturer's suggested retail price? If so, then expect the actual selling price to be much less. For example, a month ago, "North Vancouver" said he paid $4999 CAD (or $4002 USD) for a CLP380. So the difference between the HP207 and CLP380 is perhaps $800-$900. That's still significant. You'd have to decide whether the Yamaha's extra features are worth the price: ...iAFC ...Tri-Amp System ...8 speakers (vs. 4) ...Pure CF Sampling ...SP/HP Control (whatever that is?) ...LAN connection I tend to think not, but then I've not tried the CLP380. YMMV.

In Japan, the prices are like this:
HP203 150,000 CLP320 130,000 CLP330 150,000 CLP340 200,000
HP207 260,000 CLP370 270,000
LX10 400,000 CLP380 400,000
The LX is the new Roland that looks like a small upright. It's in "mixed black" -- parts are glossy and, unfortunately parts are satin finish. It's Ok looking, but sounds and plays just like an HP207.
At these prices, all of the Yamahas look overpriced compared with the Roland HPs. The HP207 is much nicer than the 370 and the 380 isn't 140,000 Yen nicer (about $1,500). However, between the LX10 and 380, I'd probably get the Yamaha.
The cabinet on the 380 is beautiful, but sound-wise it's just a fractional improvement on the lesser Yamahas. However, the string resonance and other features do bring it into parity with the Rolands, so it's the only Yamaha that I would seriously consider (if at a significant discount!)
For myself, I have an HP207 AND an HP203 (for my city apt.) Both together cost about the same as a single 380. I'm very happy with both.

Hi L Horwinkle, Yes, RRP = recommended retail... The difference between the HP207 and CLP380 is almost 2,000 USD; the list of features you've mentioned is not worth that many in my book! I use headphones anyway which nips the speakers in the butt. SP/HP Control: soft padela half pedal; both have it. Sampling: Yamaha has 5, Roland 4 levels sampled; since I like the HP207 sound, I am not too fuzzed about the Yamaha offer. I also do not need a LAN connection. The discount offered to me for the CLP380 was 10%. Roland was more in %. But as discussed many times; it is all a matter of personal preference Oh well... Cheers, Max

Anyone know the "Real" position on warranty if you don't buy locally ? I sort of know about Taft-Hartley (sort of) but there is sometimes just no mention of warranty on web sites selling Yamaha CVPs and CLPs.
The "value" of warranty is a whole subject unto itself, e.g. if the probability of a very expensive failure is sufficiently low, then saving some huge amount of money on a product without a warranty can be a heck of a good deal. Can be, could be, might be, etc. "fear of the unknowns".

In one of his earlier posts on this thread Horiwinkle raved about his good deal on his Clavinova. I computed the discount from list to be 36% off. 36% off the MSRP on a CLP380PE would take you to $5055 + tax and delivery.
