I would like to have comments on an impulse purchase I just did, a kawai ES-X, it may be 2 years old.

Comments? What would you say is a fair price (just to fuel my jitters)

ES-X? Or do you mean CA-X or something like ES-1, ES-3....

I'm not familiar with this model, but the
specifications look somewhat similar to the Casio
PX-100, which can be had new for about
500.00. Therefore, for a used one--being used
would drive down the price tremendously
for any model, given the fast-changing
nature of the world of digital pianos--
it would seem like the price should be
less than 500.00.

I am to pay $400, so not dramatically less than $500. Kawai is not Casio, though. I read a little bit an dit seems I am paying about 40% of its new price 2 years ago.

ES-X looks like the portable predecessor of the CA-X, but I imagine it is much less advanced, being that it is at least 2 years older.

Yeah, it looks great. When you got it could you be so kind to make a short comparison of ESX and Casio PX-110 and/or Yamaha P70? I am really interested in overall feel, the action, smoothness, quality and the sound. After reading tons of reviews and opinions, also here on the forum, I am completely lost. So many opinions for Casio, so many for Yamaha, so many advantages and disadvantages. When I thought I like Yamaha's action better I read that Yammy has problems with sending velocity through midi and can't send all three pedals through MIDI. Then, when it seems that Casio is a better choice, I read that ... and so on and so on. Kawaii ES X has a really good price for it's capabilities, however I can't find any Kawaii dealer around me to try their actions (even considering, that ES X has a different type than newer models).

Got the piano. It has, according to the website above, the Advance action II (Kawai newer pianos has IV and the AWA Pro, that has the wooden keys).

It doesn't feel like a Bosendorfer, but I have played many accoustic Yamaha grands that had a less desirable action (and all upright Yamahas I have ever played). I have set it at "heavy" which I suspect just makes it that you have to play with more weight to get sound. It is not strident and doesn't feel sluggish at all.

In accoustic pianos, I like light actions, but this instrument for me is precisely so that I can play my heavier repertoire without disturbing the family. This ES-X is in for a pounding: Rachmaninov, Moussorgsky, Prokofiev, Liszt, Sorabji and Scriabin are on the menu for the next 6 months.

I'll post here again then to let you know how it is surviving. So far, I am pleased, but as snobbinsh as I am with my grands, I am not picky at all about the techinical stuff with the digital. For me, this is a silent piano you can listen to, so I don't care so much about the sound.

Can't compare it to Casio of Yamaha P70 b/c I have not played those yet. If I do, I'll post.
