Anybody played these yet?
Hammond XK-3
Nord Electro 2

Claims to have the real B3 sound and feel.
Keyboard magazine gave both a good write up.

I can't afford a real vintage B3, or the new B-3P.

But, just maybe:-)

I haven't played the Hammond, but I like the Roland VK or even the Korg better than the Nord.

Thanks SteveY,

Specifically, for the B3 sound?

I don't care that much about the piano sounds, my Yamaha P-80 serves the purpose there.

yeah, I meant the B3.

It seems that all the various emulators do something really well. My Roland VK does very well on certain types of things. My B4 (Native Instruments plug-in) does even more things well, but isn't very "road worthy". The Korg (can't recall the model number) captures the "gritty" vibe, but isn't all that versatile. I use a buddy's C3 whenever I need to record the real thing (and when I have a budget). Everything else I do is a mixture of either VK or B4.

I haven't cleared this with the wife yet, but I'm thinking that a vintage Hammond might be a reality for me in '05...

I just replaced my Nord Electro 2 with the Hammond XK-3. The Hammond wins hands down as an authentic B3. I almost went with the B4 from NI, but I like the XK-3 better overall. The XK-3 does all of the B3 effects exceptionally well. If you get the XK-3 I can give you my Leslie settings, as I prefer mine over the default setup.

Thanks Ryan,

Is the Leslie effect decent? (wind up, wind down, sound spacial).

How's the action? (fast, responsive?)

Does it have that strong gutsy Hammond sound?
How about the percussion effects (good pop)?

What are you running it through?

And lastly, pricing... $2195. seems to be about the going rate, at least from what I can find online.

Thanks again,

Regards,

- Frank B.
