Any experience with Synthogy Ivory/Finale?

I'm trying to get Synthogy Ivory, the piano synth, installed on my windows vista machine. The install failed, said there was "nothing to install," so I manually copied over the Ivory Items data from the 10 different DVDs into C:\Ivory Items. The library text file points to that location.
Now, when I got the update for the Synthogy Ivory player, it ran and opened, and even recognized midi input. However, it would not playback any audio, after selecting any one of the sample provided. Pressing the on-screen keyboard and attempting midi control did nothing, and I tried all 3 audio devices detected.
I thought I might try to use it as a plugin in finale, but just copying the VSTxxx.dll file into Finale's vst folder didn't do the trick, and it didn't list as one of the vst devices in finale. Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong?

They claim that vista simply isn't supported, which is truly lame.

This is from their website: Ivory 1.5 System Requirements - PC
RTAS, VST host.
Minimum Requirements 1.3Ghz CPU Pentium 4 or equivalent 1GB RAM 11GB free hard drive space Windows XP DVD ROM drive for installation
Recommended Requirements 2Ghz CPU Pentium 4 or equivalent 2GB RAM 41GB free hard drive space Windows XP
Hard drive speed of at least 7200 RPM recommended for all systems. I personally run Ivory on XP, because unlike Vista it's not a resource hog, and drivers for my hardware are stable for XP. There was a study not too long ago indicating XP performs twice as fast as Vista (I think that was relating to SP3). Microsoft should just dump Vista altogether and move on to the next OS.
