I've had Equation Audio RP-21. It's quite accurate, and a nice deal at about $80. Better is Sennheiser HD600, which IMO produces the most correct timbre, although you should use an amplifier with it.

Any opinions on the Beyerdynamic DTX-900?
I read on head-fi.org that people prefer them to the Beyer DT-440.

I give up! I went to Guitar Center. Tried a high-end Beyer. Nice, but too expensive.
Anything within my price range was boxed up, sealed. No you can't open the box to try them on!
Meanwhile, I bought a graphic equalizer and I hooked up an external amp. (My DP is a CLP-240.)
Now, my cheapo phones sound better. But I'd still like something better, so I put the Beyer DTX-900 on my Amazon wish list. Around $70.
End of story.
