Hi all, it's me again. According to some kind friends' advice, I am now considering between the YDP-223 and the CLP-220 since they are nearly of the same price.

I've checked former topics on these two pianos. But the only comparison between these two are about the damp pedal (CLP-220 has half damp while the YDP-223 doesn't). So I am wondering whether anyone happens to play on both of these two and can give some ideas on which one I should go to. Thanks.

There is no comparison. The CLP220 is a far, far better instrument.

Hey, Mark
I know Clavinova just means the best in the DP world. But I am just wondering why these two models have such close prices?

Also, what's the difference between a YDP323 and YDP223? If what I want is only a DP that can give me the feeling of a real piano, will YDP323 give me the same kind of experience as YDP223 while being about $300 cheaper?

they don't have much difference, and both don't support half-pedal.

if you can wait a little longer, get a new YDP160 which costs even a little less and is functionally better than those 2.

I looked at the specs just now, and signa is right, they don't appear to spec out much different. The way the keyboards is described is confusing -- might be different, not clear ("GH" vs "GHE"). Maybe it was the setting, but when I tried both I felt the 220 was substantially better.

CLP220 is more like the YDP323 then the YDP223.
YDP223 has more voices, easier to use controls and better GHE keyboard.
CLP's have much better cabinets than YDP's.
After having my YDP 223 for a month now I wouldn't settle for anything less and hope someday to upgrade to a high end Clavinova.
My YDP 223 was around $1600 delivered from an online source. Price is the same at Sam Ash, Guitar enter, etc. but sales tax and delivery cost you more.
If you want the best specs and don't want to spend the extra bucks on the cabinet I would go with the YDP 223.

i don't think there's anything different about GH or GHE, which merely the term to use interchangeably, because Yamaha don't have the old generation of GH action anymore on all its products and such a term is now used to differentiate from GHS, which is the only new action introduced in recent years for those entry level models (since we have P65/70, DGX620, YDP131 etc), and you wouldn't even hear such GHS action a few years back (when i was shopping my DP then).

basically, Yamaha has 4 different actions on all the DPs they have now:
GHS, GH, GH3, NW

Other than cosmetics the difference gets down to the YPG223 having 4 more voices, and much easier panel-mounted control access.

To me, the YPG223 is positioned between the CLP220 and CLP230.

Cheers,
Alden

Except on price then the YDP 223 is much less.
