Hi,

My 8 year old is starting MIDI based piano lessons.

The only piano they are pushing is a Roland KR-3 at $2595. I personally like the Kawai CP110 for touch and sound, but is $3895 (their low end model with an FDD). What other brands have similar models?

Are there older equivalents and where is the best place to find one? What are the equivalent model numbers in the older ones?

Where is a place to find good prices on new ones?

Thanks in advance.

txranger, I just a detailed set of questions and one of the models mentioned is a Roland KR-177. This is the older model superseded by the KR-3 you are asking about. The dealer told me that the KR-3 is essentially the same as KR-177 with the only differences being that the KR-3 has a backlit LCD and has minor button layout improvements to bring the KR-177 in line with other KR family button layouts.

So if you liked the KR-3 but didn't like the price, consider a KR-177.
