Hi,
I have a problem with my new Casio PX200.
After recording with it I've found that it reach at maximum the midi value of 114. To go beyond 114 I had to push it very hard, in a manner impossible to do in normal playing. Even if I push the keys very hard it never goes over the value of 117.
I tried the light touch setting but it didn't work.
I've emailed technical assistance but they didn't answer me.
Is there someone who own the PX200 and could tell me if their PX200 transmits correctly all midi velocities?

It's simple to do, you need to record something via midi through Cubase, or another sequencer software, playing from ppp to fff, and then open the midi track and see the velocities reached.

Thank you!

It doesn't matter, mine reach 105 max.

But if you use it has a midi keyboard controller, you will have to ajust the velocity on the external sound module or piano softsynth.

It's not about how hard you press the key, but how fast you do it (hence the velocity, not pressure). Maybe that's the problem?

Most of the digitals have this problem when used as a controller.

I also believe the PX-200/800 series now have finer velocity control, meaning there are over 255 steps instead of the usual 0 to 127. This must be then converted to a standard midi signal outside of the host keyboard.

Either Casio CDP-100, PX-310 and PX110, when used as midi controllers, are able to transmit the full range of velocities, from 0 to 127.
I'd like to know that the problem concerns all PX200s or is only a problem of mine PX200.

Ontheweb,
If you check the midi chart at the back of the keyboard manual, you see that they are the standard 0 - 127 specs.

Suryaman,
Unfortunatly, I own the PX310 so I can not confirm this for you. Hope you find the answer to your question.

Rich

Internally, the casio PX-200/800 has 256 levels of velocity touch response, but for midi purposes uses 0 to 127:
The latest Privia offering, the PX-800 and PX-200, achieves a more natural grand piano sound with the "Triple Element AIF Sound Source,”* which uses a filter circuit capable of better acoustic reproduction, as well as a high-performance touch detection system (256 steps, double the steps in previous models) for much more sensitive expression of musical dynamics

Thank you the same, DragonPianoPlayer.

Come on guys, please let me know if your PX200 or PX800 can transmit all midi velocities!

Search threads for PX800 or PX200, see who owns them, and PM them...

Update.

I've connected the PX200 via USB, using USB-MIDI driver, and with the light touch curve now I can reach the highest velocity up to 127.
So USB is better then MIDI and I suspect that it's a software problem that affects the MIDI out.
