Hi there,

I bought a used Yamaha Clavinova Model CLP-810S. It sounds good but when you let the keys go after pressing it, it is not silent. It makes a noticable thud (not hard surface to hard surface but not silent either).

Could this be fixed by replacing felt inside ir is this normal? I would think that when you let the keys go it should not be noticeable.

Any help or advice would be welcome. Thanks.

Steve

You're noticing this on a digital when you
have the power turned off or the vol. at
low levels. You'd have the same thing on
an acoustic piano, but you can't hear it because
an acoustic is always at full volume. Don't
worry about it.

Ok, that makes me feel better. Do you know if there is some sort of felt that wears out inside? or gets hard over time? I am trying to understand how I know when things wear out.

thanks a bunch!

Digitals are designed for durability and
reliability and should last indefinitely.
Felt, being a fragile material, would not
be used as part of a digital's action.
There is felt trim around the edges of the
keyboard, but that's just for decoration and serves
no function in the action. I bought a Korg
digital console in 1989, and my neighbor now
has it, and it is still in perfect condition.

it's not normal, if after a key is released and you still hear some sound after 'die out' time. if you want to see what is normal, then go to some store to check some new DPs to see if there's such thing happening on those.

i don't see it's a normal case, and mine doesn't act like that. i'm not talking about mechanic/hardware sound of keys, which would happen even on acoustic pianos.
