You'll have to define "not too expensive".

The newer Yamahas have great rhodes and ep patches. But the grands are a little thin sounding.

It's still hard to beat Kurzweil, IMHO, for their natural piano sound.

If you prefer to purchase a Yamaha instrument, I would test either the CP33 or CP300 stage pianos.

However, I would also recommend considering the Roland FP-4/FP7, and the KAWAI ES6/EP3 and MP8II/MP5.

Kind regards,
James

The KAWAI EP3 is a reduced specification version of the KAWAI ES6 - the same was true of the previous generation EP2 and ES4 models. The EP3 is intended to be sold through the so-called 'pro audio' stores such as Musician's Friend, Sam Ash etc. and is therefore available in the US only.

I would recommend checking the KAWAI America website as an announcement should be made in the near future.

Kind regards,
James

James, does the ep3 have the same 88-key sampling piano sound, speakers and aha4f action as the 6?

frivolus, the EP3's keyboard action and speakers are the same as the ES6, yes, however it does not use the new 88-key sampling process.

Kind regards,
James
