Hello!
Is there anybody here at this forum that can make an assessment of differences and similarities between Roland FP7 and KORG SP250? At the moment I have a KORG SP250 but I will probably change it to the FP7. However, I would like somebody to tell me if I get a much better piano if I make this upgrade, or if the SP250 is good enough regarding to the pianosamplings for example. Is the pianosamplings much better on FP7 than SP250?
Thanks for you help
/Andrée

I upgraded from my Korg SP250 to a Roland FP4. I had problems with clicking keys and a left speaker that went out on my Korg. I now love my FP4 because it is lighter (33lbs) to carry, has GM2 midi, a switch to turn off keyboard speakers (when using my NI Akoustik piano software through external speakers).
However, I would still be using my Korg SP250 if I didn't have mechanical problems with it.

It's really disturbing and this is one of the reasons why I want to change it out for the FP7. Haven't you noticed any clicking keys on your FP4? /Andrée

I, too, have been looking at the FP7. The photo I see gives the impression that the sustain pedal has a steel rod, reminiscent of the Fender Rhodes, as opposed to a cable. Is that so? if it is, how does it respond? I also have the Kawai MP8ii and MP5 on my "short list". More expensive, but reputedly better in feel. Then there is the controller angle .... Studio Logic SL 990Pro .... Still thinking.

Andree, -------------------------------------------- "You said that you have had some problems with clicking keys on your KORG SP250, I have also been faced with this dilemma. It's really disturbing and this is one of the reasons why I want to change it out for the FP7. Haven't you noticed any clicking keys on your FP4?" --------------------------- I had my piano technician open my Korg SP250 and look at the mechanics of the keys. He found there wasn't anything different on the keys that clicked and no felt problem or damage anywhere. So he concluded it was a normal function of the Korg keyboard to have that noise over time. I did contact Korg but they wouldn't replace my keyboard even when it was under warranty. So I traded it for my Roland FP4.
The keys on the FP4 have none of those issues and feel wonderful in comparison to the SP250.

What I am saying is, that I saw a photograph of the FP7 at Sweetwater. The sustain pedaol seems different. The "normal" type of pedal has a cable with a 1/4 inch jack running from the pedal to the back of the keyboard. This one seems to have a metal rod or bar, like the one the Fender Rhodes had. I was asking if I was seeing correctly. I then went on to say, that I am also thinking of buying the FP7 and, that i am also thinking of buying the Kawai MP8ii. I hope that was clearer.

ahh, now I see. If I understand you correctly this time, you mean that the FP7 has some sort of direct connection with the keyboard, you think it is a metal rod. If this is what you meant I can tell you that the FP7 has the same cable connection like all the other digital pianos.

The "normal" type of pedal has a cable with a 1/4 inch jack running from the pedal to the back of the keyboard. This is exactly what the FP-7 has. There is no rod connecting pedals to the cabinet. I looked on Sweetwater, but I couldn't see the photo you were referring to. Why don't you post the Sweetwater link here?

Hi GTBannah, I checked your photo. I bought my FP-7 without the stand. A DP-8 pedal was packed with it. It has a cable and jack. I'll speculate that the photo in your link shows the cable neatly stretched to make a straight line to the floor. (I checked the extra large image! ) Certainly there is no mechanical linkage from pedal to keyboard assembly on an FP-7.

I've never had any prolonged experience with the Korg, so I can't compare the two. Compared to most acoustic pianos, the action measures up quite well. Repetition speed isn't great, but other than that I can't fault it. I have two acoustics and the Roland. If I'm away, The FP-7 is the piano that I miss.
