To all the seasoned veterans out there. . .can anyone shed some light on a 10 year old Shafer and Sons made by Daewoo? How were they? Any major problems? Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

I believe that they were a very cheaply made Korean piano, "private labeled" to Shafer & Sons.
In those days Daewoo was not of very good quailty. I would keep shopping.

I agree with Steve Cohen! They were a very inexpensive piano made for Vern Schafer by Daewoo in Korea.
My rule of thumb has ALWAYS been that if it's a "private label" (AKA "stencil piano"), they are of inferior quality. Think of it this way: if Daewoo was also producing pianos with their OWN name on it (which they did), why then would they build pianos of the same or better quality for Shafer than they were producing using their OWN name?
BTW: Daewoo is no longer building pianos. End of discussion.

Sigh......
The piano was built by Sojin, who had financial ties to Daewoo. It is true the piano was a mediocre instrument at that time, and wouldn't begin to be a worthwhile instrument. However, they *do* still build pianos. Sojin entered into a joint venture with Ibach, and now build a limited number of pianos which they sell under the Royale brand. I've never seen one, but the claim is the pianos are built by workers trained by Ibach, to Ibach designs. That's today however, and has nothing to do with the poor pianos they built in the 80s.

Larry, you are correct with the Ibach tie. I failed to say that pianos are no longer produced using the name Daewoo (to my knowledge). (I hate it when I screw up)!

Thanks for the reply. I HAD to take this piano in on trade and just was not sure of its origin. I figured some of the seasoned professionals in the industry would know a little more about it. Cheers!
