the feel of a piano action is very subjective, and i don't think there's any concret standard accepted by everyone for that. some people like heavier action, and some like ligher one. it's the same as playing acoustic pianos, each of which would give you different feel, and some action you prefer and some you don't.

if you have played some acoustic pianos before, you'd usually judge a digital by the acoustic piano's action. people tend to buy the digital with the action closed to what they prefer or are used to with an acoustic piano's. when you play a lot of different acoustic or digital pianos, you could tell (by comparision) which one's action you like and which one's you don't. so, it all depends on individuals.

There is only one answer for this big question.

Go to a musicstore.....see, play and feel......and you know what is ......or

Best regards,

Thanks. I would like to know what kind of processes should the piano manufacturers done (such as what process they will use for quality control and what kind of equipments they will use for testing the quality after the assembly process) to ensure that the quality of the digital piano is good enough for the customers

Go here and click on videos on the flash above, scroll a bit and you'll see 3 "why roland pianos?" videos. Watch them to see an example of a quality control. I especially liked the glissando machine \:D

Thanks a lot. I like the glissando machine too. How about the production of the keyboards. Do they have the same processes for quality control? I want to know that too. Thanks.

They use same actions (more than one available currently 4: PHA, PHAC, PHAII, PHA Alpha II) for their console digital pianos and stage pianos. But tests on that videos doesn't mean that every action they make will be that solid because test are not done on every action they make only protototypes of every action i guess. So other factors like stability of the plastic moulding machines on producing keys defines the overall reliability of the keys. They may sometimes produce bad quality plastic.

"PHA, PHAC, PHAII, PHA Alpha II", are Roland DP actions, just as Yamaha's GH, GH3, NW actions.
