Can anyone recommend a site from which to down load good quality (mostly classical) midi files which I can play with my Yamaha CLP280?

Is the for-pay "Classical Music Archive" worth their $25/year fee?

The yamahamusicsource location does not yet identify products which are compatible with the new CLP 200 series instruments. And I have not found files there which can be downloaded to a USB memory stick. (Everything still seems to want you to have a floppy drive.)

It would be nice to find music which takes good advantage of the voices built into the CLP.

Thanks!

Hey Phil!

Hope you are well! Thanks again for the visit recently! Nice to put a face with a PW name!

Go to "Google" and use the words "Doug McKenzie" for some nice jazz trio downloads and to "classical music archives" for (duh) classical downloads.

It is my understanding that these sites are free for the asking. Let me know how you make out!

If you want classical midi files, then YES, it's well worth it.

I tried downloading several midi tunes (jazz) to my USB drive but the CLP 280 doesn't read the files and generates an error message.

Any ideas out there?

Did you try the USB troubleshooting step in the appendix of your manual?

See if those midi tunes will play via Anvil Studio.

Thanks Bob, but that info did not solve the problem.

I've had some input from Yamaha (including a help phone number) I will try next.

make sure your files are less than 8 characters (think dos). I hve been able to pull a lot of files off of cvpug.com with no problems using a usb stick, but I had to edit the file names.

Thanks gobots! The file name did help and I got some files to play but there is still something strange. I'm calling Yamaha this week.
