Okay, I thought I was an acoustical guy, but I move a lot and I don't have the $$s for a fine grand piano and I think all uprights sound "tinkly."

I just played a Roland HP-207 with the new ivory keyboard.

Wow!

If I closed my eyes I'd have thought I was playing an acoustical. A large, expensive acoustical.

For background, I've had my Yamaha YDP-121 for about five years and I've always like the weighted action on it, but I did prefer the acoutical touch. However, after reading the posts here I thought I had to give the new digitals a try. Glad I did. A lot has changed in five years! For my purposes and needs, a DP makes more sense than an acoustical, so I'm a convert.

My question to all the experts here:

I'm getting an out-the-door price of $4000 (tax included) for the HP-207, with bench. Is this a good deal?

Also, since I'm up in this price range, are there any other DPs I should check out? I did try the Yamaha Clavinova 270, which a fine instrument but not as good touch-wise as the Roland.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

In this part of the world that would be a good price for the Polished Ebony version and a so-so price for the ugly brown plastic version. The cheapest available last week in Europe was from Cherubini (online seller) at euro 2180 or about $3350 delivered. Buying from a local store will generally cost more, especially in the US where they are not offered online.

It is useful to play the Roland HP207 next to a Kawai CA91 and a Clavinova CLP280 and a decent upright acoustic like a Yamaha U1 or U3.

I don't mean to be nit-picky but "acoustical" isn't a word - it's "acoustic". I once worked with an electronics technician in my engineering group that used the word "electronical"!!

OK, back to the discussion at hand. That Roland is a gem! And I don't mean a GEM!

Actually, according to both the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary and the The New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary (the dictionaries I keep on my desk) "acoustical" is a word and is an acceptable alternate for "acoustic".

My Oxford American College dictionary also lists "acoustical" as acceptable.

curt88, can you spell "pedantic"?

Thanks, Journey. I'll have to work on the dealer and get that price down!

Both are real words, but they are actually adjectives, not nouns. The problem (to the extent there is one  ) in this thread is that "acoustical" is being used as a noun.

Seems that both of these words have taken on colloquial noun-ness when used in the context of digital pianos.

Buy some good stock and hold it till it goes up, then sell it. If it don't go up, don't buy it.

I should update my dictionary then! I see it as an acceptable variant. I won't have to spell "pedantic" 'cause you already did (!) but point taken!

Enjoy that Roland! Does anyone know a street price on the RG-3M? I can't find a dealer that posts a price.
