This custom search works much better than the built in one and allows searching older posts.

Just got the same song in two versions from Howard Vigorita at Ragtime Press ( www.rtpress.com ) This is a song called the "Creeks of Missouri" and is composed by Galen Wilkes. Played by Sue Keller. The first one are played using TBO, a sampled piano, the other one on a real piano. MIDI file was generated using a MIDI recording system applied to the real piano. Thanks for posting these. The style is very attractive and very close to that on a "57 Varieties of Blues" CD I bought some time ago. A friend gave me some recent recordings of ragtime festivals and Galen Wilkes' original pieces impressed me. This is more in a swung blues style but he also writes accomplished classical ragtime.
I found both versions pleasant to listen to. The only difference I could hear, or thought I could hear, was in the upper registers. Then again, metrically regular music, such as ragtime or baroque, lends itself particularly well to MIDI.

Hi, Ted. Thanks for listening. Very astute of you. Besides ragtime, Sue (she's my wife) plays quite a bit of early blues which grew out of ragtime. Her ragtime playing style is very typical of East Coast ragtime, also know as Harlem Stride... with a dash of boogie thrown in every now and then as JP sometimes did.

Well, she is a very fine player. I am interested in hearing more. Where can I purchase her recordings ? I play a lot of James Scott and some Joplin. The only one of Frank's I play is Bucktown Buck. I play some of David's (Thomas Roberts) and I am fond of Reginald Robinson's work and that of Hal Isbitz. At present I have just got Carolina Shout (Scivales transcription) and Gladyse (Posnak transcription ) almost how I want them but playing Waller accurately and up to speed is actually about the same level as Mazeppa plus syncopation ! Nonetheless, I'm getting there gradually.

Hmmm....
Don't let this 'advertisement' fool you into thinking sampled pianos can compete with real pianos sonically yet. They can't, except under very unusual circumstances. I own almost all the good sampled pianos (I do jingle work and film scores) as well as an early 1900s M&H grand.
Two things to note about this comparison:
1) The acoustic piano has had poor compression applied to it and pumps (hear how the notes "bloom" after the original attack). Either the person who did this recording doesn't know how to apply compression/limiting, or Worra added it after the fact to make the sample sound comparatively better, because...
2) Worra makes his living selling samples, and is well-known on other boards for his...let's say...less than straightforward sales techniques.
Just a friendly heads-up.

I say you're a troll! Can you please let me, and other people on this forum know what these "less then straightforward sales techniques" are and on what bords I'm know for those!!!!

Worra was (two years ago!) creating this forum advertising thread to demonstrate his TBO library with a couple of audio samples, and he also added Sampletekk below his name to let everyone know what he represented. To me, this kind of advertising is fair as long as it does not break the rules of this forum (I suppose it does not as the thread still exists).

I completly agree. As long, as it is clear from the beginning that Worra is a SampleTekk representative, it's ok to advertise own products in _clear_ and _fair_ way, which in fact he did. I don't really understand why you, hbj, had to revive this old thread that particular way...
