From Yamaha Europe:
"Yamaha technicians selected a CFIIIS full concert grand with the highest sound quality, and tuned it to the finest possible condition. They then used our unique Pure CF Sampling technique to sample all of its sounds, in order to create the CLP sound. As a result, you enjoy the same natural tonal response as a top-quality piano."

Does it means that they now sample ALL 88 notes VS only 30 or 50 for the CLP-2xx series?

No, they still use the 30 and 50 (only CLP-380) sampling banks.
So this means every 2 or 3 notes, the rest is interpolated from them.
Only the sounds seems to be new and fresh recorded from the Yamaha CFIIIS Concert Grand.

Copilot, are you suggesting that Yamaha do not sample all 88 keys of the piano? Do you have a source for this information?

Kind regards,
James

Jmbattle, as you problably know the CLP-200 range has 30 sampling banks for the CLP-220,230 and 240 and 50 sampling banks for the CLP-270 and 280.

See here:

http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/Cont...TRIBUTE,00.html

For the new CLP-320/370 range (30 sampling banks) i found this:

For the CLP-380 (50 sampling banks):

Copilot, thank you for posting this information, however it inevitably begs the question "What is a 'sample bank'?".

I am assuming it is a collection of samples notes from an area of the keyboard.

For example: 88 keys ÷ 50 banks = 1.76 notes per bank.

Although I suspect that this system allocates fewer notes per bank for the middle range of the keyboard (typically played more often), and more for the bass and treble range.

Kind regards,
James

Can anyone from Yamaha or with Yamaha experience enlighten us on the "sample bank". If it is important enough to put on a a list of consumer specifications, certainly it can also be explained.

Manufacturers produce notes by sampling some and then using interpolation, I think is the word, to produce the full compass. In this context, "bank" is probably the number of notes sampled.
